Grade 5 Wise Owls

This winter in Social Studies, students have been learning about the American Revolutionary War. We have learned through group discussions, investigative units, and creative projects. We investigated women's role in the war and how different historical figures impacted the beginning of the United States. We are in the midst of learning about the beginning of the United States and what happened after the Revolutionary War. Students will be learning about the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution and how these important documents still affect our lives in America today.

In Language Arts, the students explored the art of narrative writing. They learned how to incorporate dialogue, figurative language and descriptive details to enhance their stories. With partners, the students continued to hone their editing and revising skills. During reading the students have been working cooperatively in book clubs to explore themes and character growth.

In the upcoming weeks, 5th graders will learn more about their middle school choices. Students will discuss their course selections and students will get a chance to learn more about what middle school has to offer! They are so excited to learn more about what is in store at Central Middle School.
