Grade 1 Northvail Wise Owls- Science

_______________________________________________________________

The First Grade classes have been working hard learning about how to take care of the Earth! Mrs. Tangorra, Mrs. Hackett, and Ms. Brooks were inspired by their class field trip to Steve Nash the Trashman, as he was able to create recycled items into new inventions! The students had fun creating their own recycled items and displaying them through a gallery walk on Earth Day!

Through the use of the Parsippany curriculum, and the FOSS Science program, the students will be learning about plants and animals, too.

Mrs. Tangorra, Mrs. Hackett, and Ms. Brooks have been working together as a team to create engaging lessons to teach phonics, using the Wilson Fundations Program. The first graders have been using lots of skills to incorporate in their reading and writing. They have been working on their glued sounds (i.e. “__ng”, and “__nk”). Students are transitioning into the learning of Bossy R (i.e. “or”, “ar”, “ir”, “er”, and “ur”) and digraph blends (“shr” and “nch”).
